Well, we made it through our first year - it has been interesting - we had a lot of people participate, and 10 of those reached the 1200 mile mark! Congratulation to all who participated. I hope you found the challenge rewarding to you.

We are going to do it again in 2013. Starting on January 1st and ending on December 31 - the challenge is to complete 1200 miles running, jogging, and/or walking. Because I have been a little slow on getting started this year - I may actually go from Chinese New year to Chinese New Year - if you would like. If you have been keeping track of your miles in January and February - submit them - you are all the closer to reaching the 1200 mile goal!

This can be done in the snow, rain, sun, wind, or on the treadmill, eliptical, or if you are really lucky maybe you will get some miles in on a beach somewhere!?

To complete the challenge, you would need to log 3.86 miles per day x 6 days a week. You can do it!

If you complete the challenge, there will be a SUPER COOL shirt that you can purchase, designed by our very own Cardston Kids Marathon Designer - - - OHHH and bragging rights too!

To sign up, send me a note on the facebook page, leave a comment here on this blog, or just enter your miles in the log at the bottom of the blog.

At the end of each month, you will need to send me your completed miles and I will post them here on this blog. (Tip: you should be at 100 miles every month!) Let's get at it!! This is going to be FUN!

1 week till. . .

You're only
ONE RUN
away from a
GOOD MOOD

So with only 1 week left till we start the 2012 - 1200 mile club, here are a few tips for keeping your running streak going:

1. Set a goal – join the 61 other people in the 1200 mile club!

2. Write down your progress every day – Before you start, set up a system for tracking your miles.

3. Plan your runs – While you don’t have to know exactly when you’re going to run, you should think about it in the morning and have a vague idea.

4. Put on your running clothes – If you feel unmotivated, just change into your running clothes anyway. Walk around in them. Go outside and start walking. Soon, you’ll be running.

5. Take “break” days – No need to run 10 miles every day. You need days to recover and running or walking for only 1 mile is a great recovery day - and since every mile counts, one is great!

6. Tell people about your goal – When you tell people about your goals it helps motivate you not to let them down because you know they’ll ask you about it the next time they see you.

7. Listen to your favorite running music

8. Try a new route

9. Run with a purpose – Sometimes you just don’t feel like doing a formal workout. That’s ok, make your run have a point. For example, run to the store or the post office or the bank.

10. Schedule a race – Nothing gives your running more purpose than having to train for an upcoming race. Make it a 5K or a 10K if you don’t feel like running a marathon.

Do you have tips that keep you running every day?   Leave some suggestions below.

2 weeks till . . .

as seen in the Cardston newspaper this week . . . . . .

The 1200 Mile Club

As of January 1st you may be seeing a few more people out on the streets of Cardston running. Our local triathlete, Cardston Kid’s Marathon founder and super-mum, Patricia Beazer, is challenging us to run or walk 1200 miles next year. Already more than 20 of us are taking up that challenge. It means running about 5km a day six times a week. You don’t have to run six times if you run further on other days but the idea is to get yourself into the habit by going as many times a week as possible.

Even if you don’t think you can run 5k you can still start by running less, walking more and then increasing your distances as the year goes by and you feel ready. You can also do your miles on the treadmill or elliptical walker which is great because let’s face it, who wants to run every day when it’s minus 20 or with an injury?( I love the elliptical walker now. I tried it out with earlier this year when I had a knee issue and found I could go for ages on it without pain in my knee or back and still got a rigorous cardio workout.

It’s not as taxing as running so it can’t really be used for a substitute in training for a race but it does give you more of an upper body workout than regular running does.) Anyway, back to the 1200 mile club. All you need to do to get involved is to check out 1200mileclub.blogspot.com

3 weeks till. . .

I tried to find a video of 2 crazy runners "enjoying the weather" Canadian style. . . but no one has been able to make one of those yet. . . . I think it might look a little more like my experience at 'run like a mother' yesterday morning.

Although my run was not so vindictive, as I ran like a mother, it was beautiful with the lunar eclipse and the sunrise.  As I began losing layers, starting with the gloves, then bank robber touque, followed quickly by the windbreaker, and finally my fleece jacket came off too.  I was running in long john top and a t-shirt - in December!  Pretty nice!

Just one more week of this. . . . . and then Emma and I will be running "Arizona style."

We'll post a picture for you!

The one thing I learned on my run is that we really can "enjoy the weather" even here in Canada's winter...layer by layer....

We are getting really excited about the 1200 mile challenge!  Have you got a friend to join you yet?

Only 3 more weeks till we start!!!  Yahoo!

Watch this video. . . now THIS is a CRAZY person!  Ha Ha Ha Ha!

What WE are going to do is just FUN!!!

Whether it's ten miles

lacing up those

5 Weeks Till . . .

January 1, 2012.

I wonder where I'll be?? . . . . Where will you be on January 1?

Lucky me, I do know it'll be somewhere warm and sunny in Arizona.

I wonder how running in the desert will feel, compared to running in the snow and wind and COLD!

I wonder if I'll ever want to come home?

I wonder how many miles I will run in the warm sunny desert?  I think my mom might make me run more than 10 kilometers (I mean 6 MILES) at one time.  I've never run that far at once before. . . . . I wonder if I will feel sore . . . or feel GREAT?

I wonder if I will feel the heat on my feet through my Vibrams?  I know I won't be wearing my new earmuff headphones that I bought especially for the chilly weather here in Cardston.

What do you wonder?

I know (not wonder) that we can do 1200 of these in the year 2012!
